Walking My Second Path in Life

Fii was the first princess of the rural nation, Déman.

One day, she became engaged to King Roy; an icy king with both beauty and ability, whose management ability was perfect, and who would be perfect save for his coldness towards women.

The engagement was not really anything for her to celebrate though.

Why? Because her younger sister with both beauty and fame, whose personality was great, who held a mysterious power and who was a soothing miko had gotten into a marriage of love with said king. And Fii, her twin, had just come along with her as a set bonus.

She was treated as a stain on the fairy tale, but after a certain event, Fii decided she didn’t care any more.

She didn’t care about this lifestyle where she never saw her husband even once, where she would spend the rest of her days rotting away in a royal villa.

She was going to live her second life!

That was the decision she came to.

  • ok the first two volumes were pretty good, but what is up with the last one. the author of this is like, shockingly sexist suddenly and even though im pretty sure its not intentional, it is REALLY bad. i am so mad at this?? i dont usually mind kinda fumbled endings but this is so stupid its unbearable. seriously the ending is so depressing even though it is supposed to be happy. this should absolutely have a tragedy tag on it it left me feeling gutted and not in a good way. it felt like a betrayal of everything written beforehand

[spoilers but they’re not plot heavy]
in book 3 a character we’ve never seen or heard mention of at all shows up, recognizes Fie immediately, and reveals her secret and drags her off to make her be queenly. its unbearable. the previous two book i watch as she works *so hard* to be a knight and follow her dream but instead she gets married off (at 17!!!) and the epilogue (where she’s only 18!!! and her classmates are graduating without her!!) she has a baby???? like she shows up to something she desperately wanted to do (become a knight. graduate with her friends.) and she is reduced entirely to showing off her ~cute baby~ that she’s ~totally happy with~ and is reduced entirely to only that. and frankly the justification is paper thin. she spends the last half of the book thinking about how her year training with the knights was the happiest, most wonderful year of her life and that she really liked doing all of those activities. she spends it horribly lonely because shes been banned from seeing any of her friends *at all* and basically decides to marry someone she likes well enough (theyd been dating for like 5 months so… eh it ok but girl that is faaast and you are 17) in order to request a divorce from the king so she can leave!! but even then she cant be a knight again!! and why not!!!! theres no rules against it!
yeah i dunno, the epilogue sure portrays her as being like, happily showing her baby off to everyone but i cant help but be horrified. like she works so hard and is clearly really good at what she was training in and now she just drops it and the author is just like ‘no shes totally happy guys! this is all a woman ever wants obviously. strip away all her dreams and make her a mom at 18 and she’ll just be soo chipper~!’ AND I HATE IT like i know she even says shes mad about it and theres some stuff in there showing her personality but that makes it worse because the author has control they didnt need to do it this way there is no excuse

    [end spoilers]

anyway my suggestion is just find something else to read. or if you do read this DO NOT READ THE THIRD NOVEL. i swear to you your experience will be vastly improved. it drops all the interesting bits, wraps things up so sloppily and hastily and with such a genuine dismissal of the ability of women to do anything that i feel genuinely sick and the bad kind of unhappy. to see a story squander it’s own premise and story so thoroughly when it had been doing relatively well before is just terrible. in retrospect the other books had some red flags in terms of sexism but i thought it was the usual dumb nonsense where it was meant to make the main girl stand out more but no!! this author definitely thinks women are inferior and can be happy just by marrying off and having a baby. like having a baby will just fix things somehow. stupid.

tl;dr 0/10 stars. there’s redeeming qualities but that last book/series end gives so many negative stars it cancels out. if you do read this, absolutely do not read the third novel for any reason. it not even bad in the right way to be funny its just depressing

    • Yep, godawful ending that utterly ruins evey good thing in the first two books. Worst plot and character sabotage by author that I’ve ever seen. Truly terrible.

  • Wow this is a surprise, volume 3 appeared hu?

  • hey, where is the 3rd volume.
    upload it already.
