Lyle Walt is a young noble boy and heir looking forward to the day he can inherit his family’s territory. Except around when he was 10 year old, his parents started neglecting him more and more in favour of his little sister, Celes.
On his fifteenth birthday, he is challenged to a duel by his sister to see who will inherit the household and horribly loses, being cast out of his family. Afterwards, he gets treated by the family groundskeepers and receives the family heirloom Gem from him that Lyle’s grandfather had entrusted to him. From there, he begins an aimless journey with his childhood friend and former fiancée, Novem, and the Gem-turned-Jewel that houses the memories, personalities, and Skills of seven of his ancestors.

I’ve read all 10 available volumes and It was quite the enjoyable read, I specially like how it shows the consequence of having a harem in a more realistic way. The MC has plenty of growth as well, I went from “this guy is pathetic” in vol 1 to “that’s my boy” in vol 10.
Personal opinion.
Alot of people seem to like it.
But honestly it was a hard read. It’s made clear that he was educated up to a certain point, to be able to take over the earldom.
Yet as soon as he steps into town it’s made clear he doesn’t even know the basics of existing. Like it’s fine to be clueless about stuff. But how can he have no concept of money. Doesn’t matter if he was rich, he was supposed to manage his territory, but money and it’s value never came up in his education?
Guy bumps into him and he thinks, huh guess it’s different from when everyone used to get out of my way in the halls. Even the people who hated me showed respect….. Like really.
Or when he was surprised when he was told there was no bath in his room at the inn. The idiot was sitting in that room and somehow didn’t come to that conclusion on his own.
Or how he didn’t know the basics of what an adventurer was… Again, he was taught for 3/4 of his life to take over the earldom, yet you lack any basic knowledge.
I dropped after first novel. Wanted to rip my hair out.
It’s pointed at in the first book, with hints and what not, that something happened at a certain point in the past that caused him to be how he is, and his family to be the way they are. If I recall correctly, it was through Novem dialogue with her father, and through the memories, though fragmented, that MC has of his early childhood. It becomes clear what happened later on, they outright explain it by volume 7 or so. How he knows nothing of the world, how his sister is better at swordsmanship than he is, despite him being absolutely obsessed with training for the past couple years or so (I don’t recall how long he’d been training, it’s been a long while since I read it)

Decent writing. Decent-ish enough MC who actually tries and has character development.
My main issue is the whiplash resulting from the fates of allies/acquaintances being fucked over outside of the MC´s perception.
I simply do not like the trend that the LN has to fuck up side characters.
Happy to see it was adapted for official translation…

I’ll be honest, I really didn’t enjoy the first book and that’s only because of the Ancestors MY GOD SHUT THE FUCK UP ESPECIALLY THE FOUNDER
I get that Lyle has no common sense or knowledge, but FUCKING HELL TEACH HIM all they do is complain and say that he can’t do this or that THEN FUCKING TEACH HIM he clearly doesn’t know so use that brain that has AT LEAST TEN WRINKLES TO FORM A SENTENCE THAT HELPS HIM

This needs editing. The translation is very bad, makes it hard to read. At least volume 1 seems to be totally broken English and keeping on reading is too tedious.
